Music projects: clean up Logic Pro, Ableton Live and FL Studio
Music apps keep automatic copies of every project and frozen tracks that add up to gigabytes over time. Music projects checks every Logic Pro, Ableton Live and FL Studio project, shows you what's left over and always keeps the 2 most recent backups of each song. Your projects, recordings and samples never show up for deletion.
If you make music, your projects grow on their own. Ableton saves a backup every time you save, Logic piles up copies for every alternative and FL Studio leaves automatic copies of every song. Frozen tracks add hundreds of megabytes of audio that, sometimes, nobody uses anymore. Music projects finds it project by project.
How it works
Pruneo finds your projects and shows them in a table: each one with its last change, how many backups it has, how much can be freed and how much it takes up. You can sort by any column.
Before suggesting anything, it checks what each song uses. In Ableton, for example, it reads the .als file to know which audio it uses, and matches it by file name, because the stored paths are often from another Mac.
Ableton Live
- Frozen tracks no song uses: safe (green), with their
.asdfile. - Old backups: ask for confirmation. The 2 most recent of each song are always kept.
- Unused consolidated or reversed audio: asks for confirmation.
- Unused recordings: only if you pick them by hand.
- Frozen tracks in use: protected.
Logic Pro
- Old backups of each alternative (
Project File Backups): ask for confirmation. The 2 most recent are always kept. - Frozen tracks: ask for confirmation.
The project, its audio, instruments, bounces, undo history and autosave never show up.
FL Studio
- Automatic copies in
Projects/Backup, grouped by song: ask for confirmation. The 2 most recent are always kept.
Your songs (.flp) and their audio never show up.
Whole projects
If you won’t open a project again, you can send it whole to quarantine from the context menu, with confirmation. During the quarantine period you can restore it with one click.
When it shows up
The section shows up if Pruneo detects that you make music: Logic, Ableton, FL Studio or other audio projects saved in the last 90 days, or one of those apps opened recently. See how it adapts to your Mac.
In the terminal: pruneo list musica.
FAQ
Can Pruneo delete my songs?
No. Project files (.als, .logicx, .flp), recordings, instruments, samples and bounces never show up for deletion. Pruneo only shows automatic copies and frozen tracks.
How many backups does it keep?
Always the 2 most recent of each song in Ableton and FL Studio, and of each alternative in Logic Pro. Older ones show up for review.
What are frozen tracks?
When you freeze a track, the app renders it to an audio file to save CPU. If you unfreeze or delete the track, that audio can be left unused. Pruneo checks which song uses it before suggesting it.
Does it work with GarageBand?
GarageBand counts toward detecting that you make music, but Music projects only checks project by project in Logic Pro, Ableton Live and FL Studio.
Can I get back what I clean?
Yes. Everything goes to quarantine, which lasts 48 hours by default and up to 30 days if you change it in Settings.
